Acting Chief of Staff, Steven Wellner - Biography
Steven Wellner serves as Acting Chief of Staff to Acting Chairman Cheryl A. LaFleur at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission). In addition, he is responsible for advising Acting Chairman LaFleur on matters related to the Commissionís electric reliability work.
Steven joined Acting Chairman LaFleurís office in April 2014 as a Legal Advisor. In that capacity, he was responsible for a variety of matters under the Commissionís jurisdiction, including oversight of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. wholesale electric markets, oil and refined product pipeline rates, electric reliability, the Southeast region, hydroelectric licensing, and natural gas rates. From June 2012 through April 2014, he served as an Attorney-Advisor in the central division of the Commissionís Office of General Counsel, Energy Markets section, where he worked on a number of significant Commission initiatives, including Order No. 1000 compliance proceedings, market design issues in the MISO region, and disputes regarding open access and generator interconnection.
Before coming to the Commission in June 2012, Steven worked as an associate in the energy practice at Dickstein Shapiro LLP. Steven received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2007, and graduated in 2002 from Rice University with a double major in history and political science.
