Chairman, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
The Sandia report provides a scientifically supported validation of the view that the risks of LNG are low and manageable.
Much attention has been focused on potential consequences, and the Commission, in concert with the Coast Guard, takes these low-probability risks very seriously. We are dedicated to safely managing potential hazards so that the probability of an event is as close to zero as possible.
The report also serves to buttress the staff's hazard modeling used in FERC's LNG authorization process. While the Sandia experts used different methodologies, the hazard ranges in the report are consistent with FERC's conservative assumptions.
