About FERC

John S. Moot, Chief of Staff

    John S. Moot is the Commission’s Chief of Staff. As Chief of Staff, Mr. Moot is responsible for the direction of the agency’s offices in a manner consistent with the views of the Chairman and Commissioners. Prior to becoming Chief of Staff, Mr. Moot was the Commission’s General Counsel from 2005-2007.

    Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Moot was a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom. In private practice, Mr. Moot represented a range of entities in the electric industry, including investor owned utilities, merchant generators, public power entities and state governments. Mr. Moot received his law degree cum laude from American University’s Washington College of Law and his B.A. in Political Science from St. Lawrence University.
